WIT Junior Reflects on Internship at HEB Engineers, Inc.

Jenah Arsenault, HEB's 2021 Summer Intern

Today we would like to highlight Jenah Arsenault's contribution to our team as she wraps up her first summer internship at HEB Engineers, Inc.

Jenah Arsenault worked as a paid civil engineering intern this summer at our office in North Conway, NH.

HEB’s full team enjoyed working with this native of the North Country and wish her the best of luck as she heads back to Wentworth Institute of Technology for her Junior year of college.

We would like to highlight her contribution to our team as she works her last day in the office.

Jenah Arsenault was born and raised in Berlin, New Hampshire. She graduated from Berlin High School in 2019 and is entering her Junior year at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Ms. Arsenault's studies at the School of Engineering include a major in Civil Engineering with a minor in Project Management.

Jenah is the 2019 recipient of the H. Edmund Bergeron Technical Studies scholarship, which is given by HEB Engineers, Inc. to a graduating Gorham or Berlin High School student enrolled in a four-year engineering or two-year surveying program at an ABET-accredited college or university.

Ms. Arsenault interned at HEB Engineers, Inc. in North Conway, NH from May to August 2021.

Jenah shared the following reflection about her time on our team:

My internship with the Civil Group at HEB Engineers, Inc. (HEB) in North Conway, New Hampshire has been an eye-opening and very rewarding experience.

As a current student studying civil engineering, the skills and knowledge that I have acquired from this summer internship solidified lessons taught in the classroom while also expanding upon the hands-on skills which are needed to be a successful civil engineer.

"Jenah was very thorough in her work and has a strong attention to detail."

- Eric Grenier, PE
Senior Civil Engineer

Each day would bring upon a new experience. Whether it be drafting schematic designs, drainage plans, roadways, calculating probable costs, or calculating minimum land requirements, there was always something new to be learned.

I also was able to step foot on some of the sites HEB was doing projects on to not only better understand the project(s) as a whole, but learn about construction procedures and different tests performed in the field.

One of my favorite projects I worked on was one I was introduced to during my first couple of weeks at HEB.

I was given the opportunity to develop schematic site layout alternatives for a new commercial development. While that may not sound glamorous to some, to me it was the perfect project to mesh my interest in transportation engineering and my love for creative thinking. I enjoyed optimizing where cars would travel through the site and how the overall layout of the site would impact the path of travel. I learned how to utilize the software add-on “Vehicle Tracking” within Civil 3D to ensure that cars could navigate through the car wash without crashing into anything.

I am looking forward to when this project is constructed as I get to look at it and say “I helped with that.”

“Jenah is a hard worker and a very fast learner. She quickly became a productive member of HEB’s Civil Group Team this summer.”

- Joshua McAllister, PE
Vice President // Lead Civil Engineer

I can not forget to mention the wonderful people I met and connected with while at HEB.

Everyone I worked with was more than happy to help me and answer any questions I had. While I was a part of the civil group, I got to converse with the structural, survey, and the resource team as well.

The people at HEB made me feel welcomed and like I was a part of the team even though I was just an intern.

I went into this internship unsure what to expect and came out with more knowledge than I could ever have imagined.

I now have a better understanding of civil engineering and what I want to do within the field. I can not thank HEB enough for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the company and I am looking forward to what opportunities this internship will bring upon in the future.
