USDA Forest Service

With its strategic location and expertise in backcountry logistics, HEB has repeatedly been selected to perform boundary surveying on the White Mountain National Forest perimeter and newly acquired lands in Maine & NH. Under nearly 40 separate work orders with the U.S. Forest Service, HEB has almost continuously contributed to this long-term boundary upgrade and expansion ever since private-sector involvement began in the mid-1970s.  Oftentimes requiring long approaches into difficult terrain, these projects have proven logistically challenging, but have been completed with consistent quality.

With Federal budget cutbacks, private sector contracting has declined in recent years. However, HEB has continued to perform occasional acquisition surveys either through special funding programs or grantor conservation groups. Examples are: the Smarts Mountain Forest Legacy project, where HEB researched and mapped the boundaries for protecting 4,200 acres in LymeNH and a Spring 2000 WMNF addition of several parcels in Crawford Notch through the Trust for Public Lands.
